Republicans hate us...yes, all of us.

Recently, I have been doing a lot of reading on the Enlightenment and the great minds it spawned. The 19th century was a period of upheaval all over the globe. The collective mind was being challenged to separate superstition from reason. I find this period of history fascinating based on where we are as a nation currently. Of particular interest to me has been the thoughts of Karl Marx. (Yes, that Karl Marx) Without getting into the minutiae, Marx basically saw Capitalism as a severely flawed economic system. The basic premise is Capitalism is a system in which the worker is exploited by the Capitalist to the point of losing his individual freedom of mind and soul.  Relationships are based solely on monetary gains and losses, and the worker is generally always on the losing end. For Marx, the only logical outcome and solution would be for  workers (the majority) to organize and revolt against the Capitalists (the minority.) Such a revolt would be the only way to shift the balance of

Anthony Weiner is in love with his penis, aren't most men?

Aside from the birth of the Royal baby, the news has been preoccupied with former U.S. Representative and current New York Mayoral candidate, Anthony Weiner's obsession with sending strangers pictures of himself. What a scandal! A man, a man I tell you, is obsessed with his penis and can’t help but show it off! I mean, from a very early age they become enthrall by it, and let’s be fair, they have to handle it every day…several times a day! How could the world possibly be surprised? Wait, the world isn’t. Only in America is this news. Maybe not all or even most men are sending pictures of themselves to strange women, but a lot are, and who cares? Yes…yes…I know…he is in a position of power…he was a Senator…he has an obligation to the public…Yes, all of that is true, but again I ask, why is this news? It’s not really, but it sells and it distracts us from the real issues the country is facing at the moment. Just like the Royal baby, Anthony Weiner’s “scandal” is a way for the med

I am not Trayvon Martin...but my son could be.

The trial of George Zimmerman for the murder of Trayvon Martin is over, but the angst is not. A jury of six women found Zimmerman "Not Guilty" of...everything. The debate about Zimmerman's guilt and whether he got away with murder rages on and probably will for some time, but the issue is not confined to just this one situation. For those who cheer Zimmerman's actions, he is a hero who did what any law-abiding citizen would have done if confronted by a black thug. To this faction, Trayvon Martin was in a place he did not belong for no valid reason, and that alone made him suspicious. These people have a larger issue: back men/boys are inherently criminal and must be treated as such. For this group, George Zimmerman did nothing wrong when he followed Martin around the neighborhood, got out of his car (against the advice of the 911 Operator), handled a loaded gun, confronted Martin, and shot and killed him. In their minds, Martin could and should have been the one to a

My hiatus is over....crazy is not!

Okay so I have taken a 2 year hiatus, but apparently "crazy" never takes a day off! The world of politics stills spins and, generally, those holding on for dear life are dizzy. I'd rather not do a review..so I will just go from here! Welcome back...let's fly!
