You know, I never think it is the "people's business" when a politician or anyone in the public eye cheats on their spouse. After all, they made and broke the covenant they made between themselves, their spouse, and God...not me. BUT this guy is a cad! Not only do you cheat on your wife, but your wife who has cancer! It's just in bad taste all around. Now, there is a sex-tape? What more can go wrong for this guy? I don't care what anyone says about Mrs. Edwards, she is a classy lady! Buying Christmas gifts for the child of her husband's mistress. Talk about grace! She is an amazing woman for that alone. I had hoped Edwards would have done great things, in fact, he was my choice before Obama as I was learning about the now-President. Now I just see him as smarmy! What a waste. His public image was shiny clean, but in the private realm he was really grimy. AND to say he had to stay in the race because "a black man or woman couldn't win." Jeez John. Talk about duplicitous!
Recently, I have been doing a lot of reading on the Enlightenment and the great minds it spawned. The 19th century was a period of upheaval all over the globe. The collective mind was being challenged to separate superstition from reason. I find this period of history fascinating based on where we are as a nation currently. Of particular interest to me has been the thoughts of Karl Marx. (Yes, that Karl Marx) Without getting into the minutiae, Marx basically saw Capitalism as a severely flawed economic system. The basic premise is Capitalism is a system in which the worker is exploited by the Capitalist to the point of losing his individual freedom of mind and soul. Relationships are based solely on monetary gains and losses, and the worker is generally always on the losing end. For Marx, the only logical outcome and solution would be for workers (the majority) to organize and revolt against the Capitalists (the minority.)
