Thou hast slain me!!

I generally do not post full video of a particular event, but in case anyone missed it, you have to see it! President Obama sauntered into the lion's den and slayed them all! It was magnificent to watch! Every Republican talking point was on full display during the Q&A session and he met each question head on. For months, the Right has blasted the President as having to have a teleprompter in order to answer "the hard questions." I think it is safe to assume that lie has been lain to rest. The President was cool and confident as he was assaulted verbally by the opposition. Every question asked was answered, and in the end, he shone. I found the honesty with which he met outright lies and misdirections to be refreshing and pleasant. There were several times when I couldn't help but cheer! The man showed why he deserves to be the leader of the Free World. No matter what questions or assertions the Republicans made, he held his own, and I could not have been prouder. For the first time, he openly called them out to their faces and let them know he is on the job. One moment I especially loved was when he let them know, when they hand him proposals, he actually reads them. That has been an argument of theirs for a very long time, that he and the Democrats have not given their proposals a fair hearing. LIE! The President deftly informed them he has indeed read what they submit, but if there is no good policy or constructive alternatives, he can't include their ideas. He was brilliant. I was becoming concerned with his efforts to be bipartisan with a group who only knows how to be partisan. From the State of the Union to this Q&A, my faith has been renewed! This is the man I voted for! I am pleased he has decided to be forthright and do the people's business and tell those not wanting to do the same, to kick rocks! You go POTUS!

To (some) Black Men...why though

Apparently it is super trendy for (some...before the "not all" chorus lifts every voice and sings) Black men to "drag" black women on social media. My question: why though?? What is going on? Okay, Black men who have "issues" with Black women are nothing new. As a Black woman who is "darker than a brown paper bag," I am quite familiar with all the old tropes: "Black women are too ghetto...don't wear their own hair...don't respect Black men...have too much drama...are loud...destroyed the Black family..." etc., ad infinitum. But here lately, it seems, Black men are well and truly taking issue with us in every imaginable way. Tyrese, French Montana, Trick Daddy, and the like all seem to have, what I am sure they deem, serious grievances with Black woman, and I just don't get it. And let's not talk about the "Hotep" brothers who are quick to, in the same breath call the Black woman God and tell us we need to stop ...

Facebook Bra Color "Scandal"

I have had it with the hoopla over the Facebook Status update. In 2000 my 43 year-old mother died from breast cancer. When I saw the email on FB, it warmed my heart because at the very least, Breast Cancer was on the minds of those forwarding the message and changing their status. I gladly changed my status. My mother had a double mastectomy, but she had a wonderful doctor who helped her get bras that gave her "breasts" and she felt so much better. Everyday, as a young mother, I worry about my risk for developing cancer and I worry about the risk my daughters may face. Breast cancer does not only belong to those who have experienced it alone. It belongs to the mothers, daughters, sisters, cousins, friends, etc. of us all, and any thing that will make it a topic of discussion is fine by me. Of course, changing your FB status won't resolve the cancer issue, but it will get young women talking about this very serious illness. When my mother developed breast cancer, there was...
